Welcome to Educational Diversity
I am incredibly proud to welcome you to Educational Diversity.
We are an all-through Pupil Referral Unit and Alternative Provision Academy, supporting children and young people from Year 1 through to Year 11 across our two sites in Blackpool.
Our vision is simple but ambitious: empowering every child to thrive and flourish.
Young people come to Educational Diversity for many different reasons and at different points in their education. What they have in common is that they need something different at that moment in their educational journey. We believe that Alternative Provision should be an intervention, not a destination. Our role is to understand each young person’s starting point, help them reconnect with education and enable them to make meaningful progress towards a successful next step.
Our approach can be described through four stages:
Connect → Re-Engage → Progress → Transition
Relationships are at the heart of this work. We want every child and young person to experience a strong sense of belonging and to know that the adults around them believe in their potential. Through relational practice, consistent expectations and highly personalised support, we work to rebuild confidence, engagement and readiness to learn.
Alongside this, we are ambitious for our pupils academically. We provide a broad, relevant and innovative curriculum which responds to individual starting points while preparing young people for life beyond Educational Diversity. Literacy, high-quality teaching, personal development, essential skills and meaningful experiences beyond the classroom all play an important part in this.
Success will look different for different young people. For some, it will mean successful reintegration into mainstream education. For others, the right next step may be another appropriate provision, a vocational pathway, further education, training or employment. What matters is that every young person leaves us better equipped, more confident and ready for what comes next.
We work closely with families, schools, the Local Authority and a wide range of partner agencies because the best outcomes for children are achieved when we work together.
Educational Diversity is also proud to be part of Synergy Education Trust. Being part of the Trust gives us opportunities to learn, collaborate and develop while retaining the distinctive expertise and responsiveness that effective Alternative Provision requires.
Most importantly, Educational Diversity is a community of children, young people and adults who believe that previous experiences do not have to determine future outcomes. We recognise strengths, celebrate progress and maintain high expectations for what our pupils can achieve.
I hope our website gives you a sense of who we are, what we value and the work we do every day to empower every child to thrive and flourish.
