PE & Sports Premium
Primary Physical Education and Sport Premium 2021/22
Primary Physical Education and Sport Premium is a Government initiative that aims to help increase and improve the Physical Education and sporting opportunities for Primary aged children. It was first provided in the 2013/14 academic year and the current government has pledged to continue this funding. This has enabled Educational Diversity to commit to employing at least one physical education specialist with a teaching qualification in swimming.
The funding has been allocated to Headteachers and is ring-fenced, meaning that it can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools. They are held accountable for the decisions they make through:
- The performance outcomes of all Primary aged children compared with their peers
- The Ofsted inspection framework, under which inspectors focus on the attainment of pupil groups, in particular in those areas where specific funding has been provided
- The reports that schools are required to publish online for Parents
Here in Educational Diversity we aim to use the funding effectively to ensure that standards of learning and achievement in PE and Sports are raised, with all children, regardless of their background.
Educational Diversity have chosen to use the £4083 Primary Physical Education and Sport Premium to provide additional support for swimming. This will enable children who did not complete the 25m in their previous school to attend swimming lessons organised by our school. In addition we also use the funding to access the Primary Stars programme through Blackpool Football Club – http://www.bfcct.co.uk/health-education/school-sport/
Swimming in Educational Diversity is extremely important with Blackpool being a seaside town. As a life-saving skill we encourage all of our children to achieve the swimming National expectation of 25m unaided.
As with every subject in school, we start with a range of swimming abilities and therefore devise our program to meet these needs:
Beginners: Build water confidence and buoyancy followed by the introduction of different strokes.
Intermediate: Introduce different strokes and the techniques that they need to complete 25m.
Developing: Work on their technique, stamina and speed to be more efficient in the pool.
Our school based qualified swimming teacher, delivers a high quality swimming teaching programme for the children over two terms. The course will support pupils to:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes effectively
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
