The Oracle is our KS4 provision catering for young people who have presented with behavioural difficulties within their mainstream settings. Around 45 students can be accessing this centre at any one time and the majority have access to a traditional curriculum with the expectation that they will follow GCSE examinations and /or Level 1 and Level 2 accredited qualifications.
During their time with us, the young people will have access to work experience placements within the local community which is facilitated through our work experience coordinator and careers adviser. In November of each year, we host an annual careers convention for all students across the service. Post 16 providers, employers and careers advisers attend and talk to our young people about the various options available to them. We have found that by bringing them to our setting, they soon realise that along with other young people in Blackpool, they have skills and abilities that would make them excellent employees.
We share the building with the local community, who have access to the Oracle once our students have finished for the day. This provides our students with the opportunity of attending for activities out of school hours and during the last few years, a number of them have successfully pursued Duke of Edinburgh Awards including completion of both Gold and Silver. These key life skills are invaluable and make the young people realise that they can succeed regardless of whatever challenges are in front of them.
The team at the Oracle, as in all of our settings, work very closely together to ensure that both the pastoral and academic needs of the young people are supported. The students love attending and develop superb relationships with staff and each other. This might be the very first time in their school lives they can celebrate who they are and believe in their potential.
